ABOUT US

Esperanza, derived from the Spanish word meaning “Hope”, was established with an intent to shift the narrative of plastic as the evil and create optimism about its use.

The background can be traced to the World Environment Day commemoration in 2018 which was hosted in India. The underlying theme for the event was “Beat Plastic Pollution,” which got us thinking and led to the founding of Esperanza on September 27, 2018, in order to find the solution to the plastic pollution problem.

After obtaining accreditation from the Government of India, in 2019, Esperanza set up its first plastic recycling factory at Rajpura in Punjab. Starting with an initial recycling capacity of 3 Metric tonnes per day (MTD), working with scrap aggregators in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal, and Uttar Pradesh for material supply, today we have increased our capacity to 10 MTD.
At Esperanza, we operate with the belief that ‘Nature does not produce waste’ – that at the end of their lifecycle, all natural elements return back to the life cycle in another form. Using this as a basis, we follow a circular approach to the use and disposal of plastics. We impart material handling and segregation knowledge to the scrap aggregators for higher recovery of scrap and quality recycling and are recycling partners for reputable brands such Verka, Supreme, Max Speciality films limited, Pasupathi Group, Karo Shambhav, Ramky, Recykal, Waste Warriors and others.

Tackling the Problem
at the Roots

Since our incorporation, we have collaborated closely with various stakeholders in the value chain, including experts from the petrochemical industry, plastic product manufacturers, end users of the product, waste pickers, aggregators, and recyclers to identify the real-world problems surrounding the generation and disposal of plastic waste:

a) Improper knowledge about the consumption and disposal of plastic material.
b) Lack of source segregation causes recyclable items to reach landfills, hence, affecting the environment
c) Poor recycling infrastructure producing low-quality material, leading to downcycling with low-value products
d) Greenwashing about the problem with no major contribution towards a lasting solution.
